Don't Just Dream It - Experience It

Veterinary Medicine, in partnership with Loop Abroad

“What an amazing experience! Everything was well organized and well done! This was a trip of a lifetime and my youngest will take this trip as well. I wouldn’t even think twice.”

—Nicole, parent of Washington, D.C. & Colonial Virginia participant

About Veterinary Medicine in Costa Rica
During your program, you will have the chance to work at Rescue Center Costa Rica – a wildlife rescue center and hospital that cares for animals that have been victims of wildlife trafficking (or who otherwise need care) – or at Territorio de Zaguates aka The Land of the Strays dog sanctuary (as featured in the Netflix series Dogs) that cares for over 1,500 stray dogs outside San José.

About Veterinary Medicine in Texas Zoo
During this week-long program, you’ll experience a taste of dorm life as you stay on campus at the University of Houston – Victoria and commute daily to the Texas Zoo. You can look forward to building a professional set of practical skills through hands-on practice in topics like comparative anatomy, animal welfare, zoo management, and recording behavioral data.

Now I Know

Hear directly from some of our Envision alumni about what they gained after attending an Envision program and how it helped inspire them to pursue their passion.

Your time at Veterinary Medicine will take you far beyond the classroom. You have the opportunity to explore the design of zoo enclosures, experience wildlife in their natural habitat in Manuel Antonio National Park and the jungle of Costa Rica, and help care for real animals at the Land of Strays dog sanctuary and on local farms in Belize.

Go Beyond the Classroom with Veterinary Medicine

The Envision Experience

Envision is committed to well-rounded, real-world-applicable education. All of our programs are designed by industry experts to help young learners identify their interests and gain the skills they need to make their dreams a reality.

NYLF Medicine follows a three-tier curricular approach that includes the Academy, Lab, and Arena.

Academy

Students are exposed to new skills and concepts through immersive learning and exploration.

Examples include...

  • Gain a holistic perspective of the medical profession and industry through engaging seminars and keynotes

  • Visit a top medical school, where you will tour the facility and explore the latest training tools and techniques

  • Take an in-depth tour of a local medical simulation center, interact with health care providers, observe proper patient care, and participate in hands-on activities where you can apply your clinical skills and knowledge

Lab

Students build creativity and critical thinking abilities by participating in dynamic hands-on simulations.

Examples include...

  • Be put into the position of a first responder as you practice the life-saving clinical skills needed in a true-to-life emergency during the Outdoor Medicine Simulation developed by professors in the Stanford University School of Medicine's Department of Emergency Medicine

  • Respond as a medical professional to a high-pressure Triage Simulation in which you will have to apply your medical knowledge to triage patients with varied injury levels

  • Get hands-on experience in clinical workshops focused on the tools and techniques practiced by medical professionals

Arena

Students have the opportunity to shine among their peers while presenting solutions and competing in a public platform.

Examples include...

  • Engage in creating a marketing campaign to help prevent the spread of viruses during the Designer Virus Workshop

  • Participate in and perform medical ethic activities in which you practice debate skills, analyze ethical issues from varying perspectives and appreciate diverse opinions
