The National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF): Medicine & Health Care is your chance to gain transformational medical school and career knowledge. Over eight days, discover the right path for your future through a fun and interactive curriculum that will allow you to test your personal and academic strengths in true-to-life simulations and hands-on clinical training, while you gain the confidence needed to give yourself a leg up on your future.
Outdoor Medicine Simulation: When Care Is Hours Away
Created by the late wilderness medicine expert Dr. Paul Auerbach and simulation expert Dr. Rebecca Smith-Coggins, professors in Stanford University School of Medicine's Department of Emergency Medicine, this realistic simulation will allow you to learn and practice potentially life-saving medical techniques, including positioning and extraction, wound care, control of bleeding, usage of splints and slings, and basic wilderness first aid.
Triage Simulation: When Disaster Strikes
Designed in collaboration with Mary desVignes-Kendrick, M.D., M.P.H., Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health, and her team, you will respond to a disaster as a medical professional, assess and sort victims based on the severity of their injuries, and practice applying your medical knowledge in high-pressure environments.
All program elements are being evaluated to ensure they meet current public health standards.

The Envision Experience
Envision is committed to well-rounded, real-world-applicable education. All of our programs are designed by industry experts to help young learners identify their interests and gain the skills they need to make their dreams a reality.
NYLF Medicine & Health Care follows a three-tier curricular approach that includes the Academy, Lab, and Arena.
Academy
Students are exposed to new skills and concepts through immersive learning and exploration.
Examples include...
- Gain a holistic perspective of the medical profession and industry through engaging seminars and keynotes
- Visit a top medical school, where you will tour the facility and explore the latest training tools and techniques
- Take an in-depth tour of a local medical simulation center, interact with health care providers, observe proper patient care, and participate in hands-on activities where you can apply your clinical skills and knowledge
Lab
Students build creativity and critical thinking abilities by participating in dynamic hands-on simulations.
Examples include...
- Be put into the position of a first responder as you practice the life-saving clinical skills needed in a true-to-life emergency during the Outdoor Medicine Simulation developed by professors in the Stanford University School of Medicine's Department of Emergency Medicine
- Respond as a medical professional to a high-pressure Triage Simulation in which you will have to apply your medical knowledge to triage patients with varied injury levels
- Get hands-on experience in clinical workshops focused on the tools and techniques practiced by medical professionals
Arena
Students have the opportunity to shine among their peers while presenting solutions and competing in a public platform.
Examples include...
- Engage in creating a marketing campaign to help prevent the spread of viruses during the Designer Virus Workshop
- Participate in and perform medical ethic activities in which you practice debate skills, analyze ethical issues from varying perspectives and appreciate diverse opinions
- Apply your newly acquired clinical skills and knowledge by practicing on lifelike mannequins at a medical simulation center

Sample Residential Schedule:
Be introduced to NYLF Medicine & Health Care and participate in a Medical Education Discussion (MED) Session.
Get hands-on with the Outdoor Emergency Medicine Simulation: When Care Is Hours Away. MED Sessions on Leadership & The Path To-and-Through Medical School.
Participate in the Medical Ethics Caucus, attend the MED Session: Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine, and take part in the Clinical Skills Rotation workshop, part 1.
Explore life as a medical student and experience NYU Langone Health where scholars will interact with health care providers and test the latest technology under guidance from the experts. Scholars will have lunch or dinner off campus.
Witness a surgical video broadcast and complete the Clinical Skills Rotation workshop, Part 2.
Get your heart pounding during a Disaster Triage Simulation and attend hands-on workshops.
Attend and engage in Health & Medical Case Studies and set your goals and personal leadership plan for your future.
Receive your Certificate of Completion and look forward to a future in medicine.
